Obituary

Avis Montressa Howe, 89, of Statesboro, Georgia, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Heritage Inn in Statesboro.

Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Saturday August 10, 2013 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the funeral hour at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Howe was born October 18, 1923, in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Matthew and Eulalia Lane Holton. While living in Fitzgerald, she was employed at Fitzgerald Mills. Mrs. Howe moved to Savannah and was a former employee at Candler Hospital. Upon returning to Fitzgerald, she was a longtime dedicated employee of Southern Roasted Nuts and American Blanching, where she retired at the age of 85, the oldest employee of American Blanching. She was a member of Crossview Baptist Church.

She is survived by a two sons: Thomas C. and Betty Howe of Greenville, South Carolina and James Michael and Joyce Howe of Savannah; one daughter: Glenda and Glenn Barnard of Statesboro; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and special friends: Janice & Wallace Peacock of Fitzgerald. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Cecil Lafayette Howe; an infant son; two brothers: Charlie Holton and Gene Holton; and one sister: Doodle.
