Mary B. (Zamparelli) Held, a lifelong resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late Charles E. Held died on Monday morning, August 5, 2013, following a lengthy illness. She was 95 years old.
Born in Revere, Massachusetts, on December 24, 1917, she was the beloved daughter of the late Mario and Grace (Zucarro) Zamparelli. Mrs. Held was a cosmologist for many years and was the proprietor of the Fountain of Youth Beaty Salon with locations in Medford and Winchester. She was also the owner of Tracy’s Coiffeur in Davis Square, Somerville. Mary was a teacher for the Cosmologist Department at the Medford Vocational School. Mrs. Held was also a developer and was responsible for several building projects in and around Medford. She was also a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Church of Medford. She will be very dearly missed.
She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law; Richard C. and his wife Beverly M. Held of Winchester, sister; Rose Quattrocchi, grandchildren; Tracy, Charles, Richard, Zachary and Jessica, great-grandchildren; Andrew, Caitlin, Charles and Hailey and many nieces and nephews. She was also the loving mother of the late Ronald J. Held and sister of the late John, Joe, Andrew “Hawk” and Frank Zamparelli and Eleanor Cataldo and Margaret Sacco.
Her funeral was held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Monday, August 12, 2013, at 8 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 9 AM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Visiting hours were held on Sunday, August 11, 2013, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
