Obituary

Virgil Griffin, 87, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, August 9, 2013, at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County with Elder Mickey Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Griffin was born March 24, 1926, in Berrien County to the late Aaron and Lalla Bell Chaney Griffin. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during WWII. He was a former mechanic for Ben Hill Truck and Tractor Company and Irwin County Tractor Company, a former milk truck driver for Kimball’s Dairy and also worked at Willis Cotton Gin. He loved to grow flowers, especially amaryllis and day lilies. He was a member of Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by a daughter: Blondean & Kaylon Whitley of Ocilla; son: Jerry & Darlene Griffin of Dublin; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and a brother: Odell T. Griffin of Bradenton, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Doris Griffin; a son: Roy Griffin and a great-grandson: Daniel Whitley.
