Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Emra M. (Karam) Der Sarkisian, 88, a longtime resident of Armory Street in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Sunday, August 4, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at the Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Springfield on December 23, 1924, a beloved daughter of the late Shaheen and Elmoze (Ordah) Karam. She was raised in Springfield, attended local schools and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was previously employed at the former Rainbow Coat Factory in Springfield. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was a lifelong communicant of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church and a former member of the Saint Anthony Women’s Guild. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Peter “Bedros” Der Sarkisian. They were married on April 24, 1955 at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church and were blessed with over 49 years of happiness together. She leaves her loving children, Greg P. Der Sarkisian and Ami Walling, of Carroll, OH, Paul C. Der Sarkisian of Destin, FL, Karen A. Der Sarkisian of Springfield, Edward J. Der Sarkisian of Belchertown, and Theresa M. Golonka and her husband, John, of Chicopee; her four cherished grandchildren; her loving sister, Betty Caronna of Enfield, CT; her loving sister-in-law, Susan Der Sarkisian of Uxbridge, MA; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by ten dear brothers and sisters. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118. Her burial will be private for her family. There are no public visiting hours. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
