Obituary

COCHITUATE: Helen M. (Tufts) Howland, 93, died peacefully on Monday evening August 5, 2013 at Wingate of Sudbury following a period of declining health.
She was born in Watertown on September 10, 1919 the daughter of the late Waldo C. Tufts and Helen M. (Stevens) Tufts.
Helen was the wife for 70 years of the late Curtis M. Howland who died on November 14, 2009.
She is survived by her children, Maralyn A. MacGillivray of Salisbury; William L. Howland of Maynard; David A Howland of Framingham; Margaret H. Cote’ of Port Charlotte, FL; Richard C. Howland of Wayland; Nancy C. Hensley of New Sharon, ME and Peter T. Howland of Sudbury. She was the mother of the late Bonnie C. Howland and Jean E. Cummings and was the foster mother to Rachael Orban. She is also survived by her brother James Tufts of Port Clyde, ME, 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Herbert and Charles Tufts and Jane Edmunds.
Helen has been a resident of Cochituate since the age of 9 before moving to Sudbury a few years ago. She graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1937. She and her late husband Curtis met at a roller skating rink in Marlborough and were married in 1939. They raised their children in Cochituate in a home on Hawthorne Road where they also raised bees, produced honey and together they both enjoyed gardening. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Helen also loved to read, watch TV and do crocheting. She had anxiously awaited the time to be re-united with her husband of 70 years, Curtis, and is now at peace.
Visitations will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Cochituate.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11:00 am with her granddaughter Pastor Corrine Howland officiating at the Howland family lot in Lakeview Cemetery, Commonwealth Rd (Route 30), Cochituate.
