Virginia Marie “Ginny” (Russo) Girard, 82, of Winchester, and Yarmouthport, passed away, August 5, 2013. She was the beloved wife for 60 years of Robert A. Girard, Sr. Born in Malden, Virginia was the daughter of the late Bartholomew P. and Gertrude (Mahoney) Russo, the former owners of Russo’s Candy and Ice Cream in Saugus. At a young age, Virginia developed a love for anything with sugar, especially ice cream and candy. In her later years, she loved to enjoy a glass of wine. A graduate of the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, Ginny worked at the Mass Hospital School in Canton, where she met her future husband. A 30-year resident of Winchester, Mrs. Girard was employed as a medical secretary at Winchester Hospital for many years until her retirement. Upon retirement, she and her husband and family spent most of their time at their home on Cape Cod. In addition to her husband, Ginny is survived by her children, Robert A., Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Marianne Hodge and her husband Warren of Tewksbury, Thomas Girard and Linda Bolmarcich of Nashua, NH and John Girard and his wife Mary Beth of Reading. She was also the dear sister of Paul Russo of CA, David Russo of FL, Joseph Russo of Plymouth, MA, Richard Russo of FL and the late Miriam Reid. Ginny was the devoted grandmother of David Hodge and his wife Mary of Wilmington, Christopher Hodge of Tewksbury and Kerianne Girard of Reading, and is further survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St. Winchester on Friday, August 9, at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 10AM. Interment Charles Lawn Memorial Park, Reading. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 PM.
