NORTON - Mary A. Gouveia, daughter of the late Jose “Joe” and Isabel (Freitas) Gouveia, died at the Wedgemere Golden Living Center in Taunton on Aug. 5, 2013.
She was 79.
Born in Madeira, Portugal, she moved to the U.S. with her family in 1946 and settled in Norton.
She was a graduate of Norton High School and a 1975graduate of Bridgewater State College.
Employed by Balfour of Attleboro for many years, Mary was the administrative assistant and secretary to the senior vice president.
She retired many years ago.
A former of St. Mary’s Church of Norton, she enjoyed traveling, cooking and gardening.
She was a member of the “Gold Dusters”.
Survivors include three brothers, Joseph Gouveia and his wife Mary of Yarmouth, Noe F. Gouveia and his wife Janet of Pocasset and Florida, and Gabriel Gouveia of North Attleboro; a sister, Mary Jardim of Taunton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Augustine F. Gouveia.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Friday Aug. 9th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church, Taunton at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday Aug. 8th, from 5 to 8 p.m.
