Burton E. “Burt” Jennings age 89 of Brockton died Sunday August 4, 2013 at his home after a brief illness. He was the loving husband for 64 years of Elaine F. (Kirker) Jennings. Born in Allston a son of the late Frank and Margaret (Bismore) Jennings Burt was raised in Whitman and Brockton. Following graduation from Brockton High School in 1942 he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and also served in during the Korean Conflict
Burt was a machinist who retired from Designers Metalcraft in East Bridgewater after many years of service. He was a talented craftsman who loved to work in his home workshop. A devout Catholic, Burt was an active member of St. Edward/St. Edith Stein Church for many years. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and a volunteer in the food pantry and bingo programs. Burt will be remembered as a devoted family man who was loyal to friends and family. For over 25 years he enjoyed camping at Normandy Farms in Foxboro.
In addition to his wife, Burt is survived by three children Stephen Jennings and his wife Barbara Callahan of Cambridge, Bruce Jennings and his wife Christine of TN and Jo-Anne Bousquet and her companion David Gonsalves of Fairhaven. He also leaves two grandchildren Danielle Bousquet of Fairhaven and Brandon Bousquet of New Bedford and a great granddaughter Skylar Bousquet. He was the brother of Roger Jennings of Cambridge and the late Dorothy Wright and Elliot, Warren, Raymond and Kenneth Jennings. He also leaves a devoted son-in-law Allan Bousquet of Brockton and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton on Wednesday 4-7 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Church at 9 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery.
