Catherine M. (McNamara) Norris, in her 100th year, a 37 year resident Wollaston and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, August 1, 2013 at Wingate of Andover Nursing Home in Andover after an extended illness.
Catherine was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 6, 1913, a daughter of the late Maurice J. McNamara and Karin E. (Johansson) McNamara. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Girls High School in Boston in 1932. Catherine worked as a secretary for the Veterans Administration for over 15 years. She was a seamstress and enjoyed knitting and sewing ,reading and crossword puzzles. She was a member of The Viking Club of Braintree. Catherine enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her husband, children and grandchildren.
Catherine is the beloved wife of the late Thomas F. Norris. She is the devoted mother of Thomas F. Norris Jr. and his wife Ruth of Andover, David H. Norris and his wife Cornelia of Andover, Paul M. Norris and his wife Diane of Quincy and the late Richard "Beepo" Norris. She is the beloved mother-in-law of Marie Norris of Charlestown. She is the loving Grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandaughter. She is the beloved sister of Elsa Erickson of Randolph, Martin McNamara of Brockton, Margaret Taros of Milton and the late Harold McNamara, Ann Parent, Alice Gannon and Maurica Nugent. Also many nieces & nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Catherine's visiting hours on Tuesday morning, August 6, 2013 from 8:30 A.M. to 9 :30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
