Dale K. Jansen, 64, of Franklin died July 31, in Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Margaret A. (Catto) Jansen.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, April 9, 1949, the son of the late John C. and Gertrude (Schweikart) Jansen, Mr. Jansen was raised in East Providence and had lived in Franklin for the past 32 years.
He was a graduate of East Providence High School, class of 1967 where he was member of the football team and captain of the hockey team.
Mr. Jansen received a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the University of Rhode Island and a Master Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Rhode Island in 1974.
Mr. Jansen had been a Senior Product Manager for the Waters Corporation of Milford where had worked for the past 36 years.
Mr. Jansen had been an avid runner. He had run in and finished many marathons including the 1990 Boston Marathon.
As he grew older he changed from being a runner to being a cyclist, he had completed 13 century (100 mile) rides and had ridden in the Pan Mass Challenge in 2011.
Dale also enjoyed boating and deep sea fishing.
He was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Franklin.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Jennifer L. Emerson of Barrington, Rhode Island and Shawn D. Jansen of Franklin.
He is also survived by his sisters, Joan Lisi of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Barbara Gooding of Unity, New Hampshire and his brother John Jansen of South Kingstown , Rhode Island.
He was the brother of the late Hope O’Brien.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Freya and Bjorn Emerson.
His funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday August 3 in St. Mary’s Church at 10:00.
Burial will be in St. Sebastian’s Cemetery in Westerly, Rhode Island at a later date.
