Obituary

Armando J. Gilbert, 90, of New Bedford died July 27, 2013 at Southeastern Massachusetts Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Fanny B. (Shaves) Gilbert.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and Candida (Gonsalves) Gilbert, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Gilbert served in the U.S. Army and Merchant Marine during World War II. After the war, he continued as a merchant mariner for many years until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed building model ships.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, John Gilbert of California; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Edwin, Antone, James and Adelaide Gilbert.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, July 31st at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday, July 30th from 6-8 PM.
