Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Lucille O. (Lamontagne) Gonthier, 89, a longtime resident of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Thursday, July 25, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Loomis House in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on December 4, 1923, a beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Marie A. (Roy) Lamontagne. At a young age, her parents relocated to Saint Neree de Bellechasse, Province of Quebec, Canada where she was raised. She lived in Canada until moving to Springfield in 1945. She resided on Jefferson Avenue in the North End section of Springfield and later lived on Liberty Street in the Hungry Hill section of the city. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield where she was a member of Les Dames de Sainte Anne. She was later a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield. She was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 44 years, Leopold Gonthier who was Called Home on April 20, 1985; her cherished grandson, Timothy Gonthier who was Called Home on September 21, 2004; her longtime companion, George Breton; and her dear sisters, Yvonne Noel and Irene Fournier. She leaves her loving children, Diane J. Guillemette and Ronald R. Gonthier, both of Agawam and Joanne R. Long and her husband, Brian, of Feeding Hills; her six cherished grandchildren, Marc Guillemette and his partner, Sadie Tuohey, Melanie Goodman and her husband, Joshua, Matthew Guillemette, Michael Gonthier, Sarah Long and Connor Long; her four cherished great-grandchildren, Addison, Julian, Kingston and Mireille; her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members; and her former daughter-in-law, Kathleen Gonthier of Feeding Hills. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 29, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to either the Alzheimers Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104, or to the Holyoke VNA and Hospice Life Care, 113 Hampden Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
