Joan M. (Caledonia) Janaro age 89 of Brockton, died Tuesday evening July 24, 2013 at West Acres Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of Ralph E. Janaro for 68 years. Joan was born in Brockton a daughter of the late Domenic and Rose (Vescio) Caledonia, attended Brockton schools and remained a lifelong resident of the city.
Joan was a homemaker devoted to her home and family. She enjoyed knitting for her family and traveling. She was a former member of the YWCA Mothers Club, the Novelli Club, and bowled with Westgate Lanes Wednesday night league. Joan was a longtime volunteer at Cardinal Cushing Hospital, enjoyed singing in Brockton area minstrel shows and had sung on WORL radio. She was also a longtime communicant of St. Edward Church.
Joan was the mother of Beverly Guarino and her husband John of Kinnelon, NJ and the late Ralph E. Janaro, Jr. and his widow Helen of Hanower Falls, NY. She leaves six grandchildren Danielle Minoia, Matthew and Michael Guarino, Justin, Christopher and Andrea Janaro and five great grandchildren. She was the sister of Teresa Dandrata of Brockton and the late Etta Moses and Sam and Bruno Caledonia. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Sunday 3-7 pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 8am followed by a funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Church at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s name may be made to the Patients Activity Fund at West Acres 804 Pleasant St, Brockton, MA 02301 or to Life Choice Hospice 1256 Park St., Stoughton, MA 02072.
