Victor V. Vickers, 82, of Tifton died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Terrell Roberts and Rev. Brantley Seymour will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Seth Dale, Stan Walker, Rocky Carrington, Ricky Carrington, Monty Spinks and Travis Wall will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 26, 2013, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Vickers was born on May 9, 1931 in Chambers County, Alabama and was the son of E. Bulus Vickers and Mary Flossie Fuller Vickers, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. He was retired as the co-owner of Bo-Vic Machine Shop. His various places of employment, before opening his business, included Keenan Auto Parts, Carmichael’s, Tifton Auto Parts and at Carlton Caterpillar in Albany.
Mr. Vickers served in the United States Army in the Artillery Division during the Korean Conflict and received the Bronze Service Star, the U.N. Service Medal and the Purple Heart. His hobbies were woodworking and gardening.
Mr. Vickers is survived by his wife of 60 years, Melba Padgett Vickers of Tifton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley and Ricky Carrington, Wanda Horton and Marsha and Stan Walker, all of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Lucille Vickers of Tifton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Willie Tucker and Resa and Glenn Green, all of Tifton; four grandchildren and their spouses, Rocky and Kim Carrington, Jocelyn and Travis Wall, Emily and Seth Dale and Allison Walker; and three great-grandchildren, Brooke Carrington, Brantt Carrington and Jayden Wall.
