Robert Sumner Lawrence, 85, passed away Sunday, July 21,2013 at Union Hospital in Lynn surrounded by his family.
Born in Worcester on November 9, 1927 to the late Leon and Olive (Partridge) Lawrence, Bob was raised in Holden and attended Holden Public Schools.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Adomaitis) Lawrence and her seven children, Julie, Debbie, Robin, Kathleen, Kim, Bobby, and Michael, 15 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He also leaves his three daughters whom he raised in Oxford; Carol Snelling and her husband Richard, Paula Hendrick and her partner Robert Palkovich, and Dawn Murphy and her husband James. He leaves 8 grandchildren; Tracey, Richard & Kirk Snelling, Nancy & Robert Hendrick and James, Shawn & Joel Murphy and 17 great grandchildren.
Bob was predeceased by his first wife, Geneva (Brown) Lawrence who passed away in July 1989. He is also predeceased by his Aunt Phyllis Partridge and Uncle Roger Blackmer. He is also survived by cousins Minot and Philip Blackmer.
Robert joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and proudly served for four years. He was a member of the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland and a member of the First Baptist Church of North Oxford and was a volunteer firefighter in North Oxford at the Huguenot Steamer station for many years. He was a great fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He was a member of the American Legion post in Maderia, Fla.. He enjoyed time spent in Maine. Bob worked for Massachusetts Electric Co. in the meter department for 36 years and retired in 1990.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, including his dog Eddy.
His family would like to thank the staff in ICU at Union Hospital for the wonderful and compassionate care they gave to Bob.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 from 6PM to 7:30 PM at the ROBERT J.MILLER-CHARLTON FUNERAL HOME, 175 Old Worcester Rd., in Charlton. Following cremation, burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Worcester.
