Henrique "Rick" Rogers, 87, of Dartmouth died Saturday July 20, 2013 at the Royal of Fairhaven after a long illness. He was the husband of Dorothy J. (Jacome) Rogers, who was the love of his life.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Henrique and Januaria (Teixeira) Rogers, he lived in Dartmouth for many years.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
Mr. Rogers owned and operated H. Rogers Co., Inc., a paint and wallcovering company on County Street in New Bedford, all of his life until retiring. The company was founded by his father in 1907 and is still in operation today.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater aboard the U.S.S. Fuller. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Portuguese-American War Veterans and the Lions Club.
He will be remembered as a very kind and gentle man.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years; two grandchildren, Adam Rebello and his wife Christina of Dartmouth, and Abigail Rebello of Salem; a great-granddaughter, Grace Rebello; two sisters, Lucy Perry of Georgia and Beatrice Gonsalves of Rochester; and nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Heidi Rogers Rebello, and brother of the late Carmelia R. Duponte and Laura Rogers.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:30 AM at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Heidi Rogers Rebello Memorial Scholarship Fund.
