Obituary

DARTMOUTH -- Thaddeus Richard "Ted" Kozacko died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, after a long illness, three days after his 87th birthday. He resided at Heritage Assisted Living for the past several years.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Michel and Stephania (Misiaszek) Kozacko, Polish immigrants.

He attended local schools and graduated cum laude from the University of Miami in June 1951.

After college, he served in the Marine Corps. He not only survived the crash of a military plane, but recovered beyond his doctor's expectations.

Following his military service, he studied at Stanford University and in France. Mr. Kozacko taught French at Dartmouth High School until he retired.

He loved to travel. Some of his favorite destinations were in the Caribbean, particularly Cuba; Western Europe; and closer to home, Nantucket Island. He would delight his family with souvenirs, once sending an addressed and stamped coconut.

Survivors include a sister, Julia; a nephew, Michel Halloran of Hayward, Calif.; and nieces, Deborah McKowen of Peakes Island, Maine, Ann McKowen of Freeport, Maine, and Susan McKowen O'Connor of Scarborough, Maine.

He was the brother of the late Cecilia "Sally" McKowen.

His memorial Mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday September 1, 2004 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, North Front Street, New Bedford. Burial is private.
