Mary E. Layton
January 8, 1924- July 19, 2013
Mary E. (Dixon) Layton, 89, of Anderson, died July 19, 2013 at Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness.
She was born on January 8, 1924 in Vicksburg, Mississippi the daughter of Albert K. and Ira C. (Sherman) Dixon. She served in the US Marines and later worked as a receptionist for Blassaras for 35 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of New Life Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Joy Club at the church, an avid Atlanta Braves Fan, and loved playing bingo.
Survivors include her 2children: Patrick C. (Nancy) Hill of Ackworth, GA, and Sharon K. Riddle (Kenny Bowmer) of Anderson. 5 step children: Ernest K. (Sondra) Layton, Robert Layton, William (Sandra) Layton, Samuel W. Layton, all of Anderson, and Carol A. (Fred) Bair of Summitville. 23 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren, and her dog Maggie Mae.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest K. Layton in 2005, a son, Michael Hill, a daughter in law, Claudia Layton, and a grandson, Robert Layton.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 12 noon, at the New Life Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Church. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.
