In Taunton, Robert F. (Bob) Thigpen Sr. age 92, passed away on July 17, 2013 at the Taunton Nursing Home after complications from advanced-stage Alzheimers. Born and raised in Taunton, he was the son of the late Frances (Moore) Lewis and Robert F. Thigpen. He was predeceased by his wife Sally (Morlock) Thigpen, to whom he was married for more than 60 years. They were long time communicants of St. Mary’s Church in Taunton. Bob attended St. Mary’s Grammer School, Coyle High School, and went on to Boston College, graduating with a B.A in accounting. He worked for many years at Metals & Controls/Texas Instruments in Attleboro as a Cost Analyst, retiring in 1985. Bob proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the 18th Weather Squadron, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon retirement, Bob & Sally traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and summered for many years in France, the country that he loved so much. Bob was an avid gardener & fitness walker. In his free time, Bob enjoyed music of all kinds, especially classical, jazz and rock and roll, and could discuss music for hours with like-minded folks. He was studied in the fine arts, especially the classical painters, many of whose works he visited in museums throughout the world. Though most of us frowned over Will Shakespeare in college, he was Dad’s favorite writer. Bob is survived by his four children: Susan Short May and her husband Bill of Vermont, Robert F. Thigpen Jr. and his wife Sarah of Vermont, Tina Stone and her husband Raymond of Wrentham, and Stephen P. Thigpen and his wife Mindy of CA. He also leaves his loving grandchildren James May, Alyssa May, Tracy Thigpen, Adam Thigpen, Ian Stone and Lauren Thigpen, as well as three great-grand children Jonah, Mills and Marshall May. Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home in Taunton, MA, and will take place on Monday, July 22, 2013. Calling hour will be from 9:30-10:30am, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Mary’s Church, followed immediately by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org or to the charity of your choice.
