John Richard Aguilar
"Brother John" 8/13/1933 - 7/15/2013
Johnny was born and raised in Montalvo, CA. He attended Montalvo Elementary, Ventura Jr. High and Ventura Sr. High Schools. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the 82nd Airborne, U.S. Army.
John was a hard working man. As a pip fitter, his work included construction of the Alaskan Pipeline. When work was slow, he saddled up and worked as a hired hand on the Crawford Ranch and Taylor Ranch running cattle. In later years, after recovering from a back injury, he worked as a church custodian.
John loved sports and competed in softball, horseshoes and golf; but most importantly, he discovered the love of Jesus Christ and made Him his Lord and Savior. In his passionate pursuit to share this love, he was dubbed "Brother John". As s volunteer, Brother John ministered to inmates at Ventura County Jail and participants of Ventura Teen CHallenge, a Christian based substance abuse rehabilitation center. He was also enthusiastic about raising funds for the center and instrumental in the organization of the first Teen Challenge Golf Tournament Fund Raisers.
John died peacefully in his Ojai home after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary Ann, brother, Carlos; children, Mona, John Jr., Jim, Josephine and Jackie; step-children, Trini, Dori, Annie and Gwen; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held on his 80th Birthday, Tuesday August 13th, 2013at 11AM at New Hope Fellowship 590 Old Ventura Ave, Oak View.
