TEWKSBURY - Janice R. (Puopolo) Hand, age 67, a former resident of Boston’s North End, died peacefully, Saturday, July 13, at Mass General Hospital, surrounded by her beloved family after a courageous ten month battle with cancer. She was the wife of Jerry D. Hand Sr., with whom she had celebrated a 47th wedding anniversary this past April 2nd.
She was born in Boston, October 2, 1945, one of three children of the late Chitiago “Charlie” and Vanda (Valentino) Puopolo, and raised in the North End of Boston where she graduated from the Juliet Billart High School. Upon her marriage to Jerry, they moved to Somerville, and in 1976 moved to Tewksbury, where she was a member of St. William’s Parish family.
Janice was an active member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary in both Tewksbury and Newburyport, and will be remembered for her love of animals and devotion to her family.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Jerry D. Hand Jr., and his wife Jennifer Townsend of Arlington; two daughters, Barbara J. Landry and her husband Albert of Pelham, NH, and Debra A. Moore and her husband Eric of Tewksbury; seven grandchildren, Alyssa Hand, Isabella Townsend, Jerry D. Hand III, Katherine Townsend, Jacquilyn Roscoe, Katelynn Moore and Jeffrey Moore; a brother, Anthony Puopolo and his wife Sylvia of Madison, NH; a brother-in-law, Donald Caprigno of Somerville who was the husband of her late sister, Maria Elaina; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be held Saturday morning, July 20, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 Noon in the funeral home. Memorial prayers follow at 12:00 Noon in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, will be appreciated.
