Obituary

SOUTH HADLEY – Doris S. (Wicklman) Hough, 80, of South Hadley was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born at home on Mary Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on April 5, 1933, a beloved daughter of the late Leo and Mildred (Gingras) Wicklman. She was raised in the Willimansett section of Chicopee, graduated in 1952 from Chicopee High School and lived in the city for many years. She moved to Westfield around 1953 and later to Key Largo, Florida where she lived for several years before returning to Western Massachusetts. She previously worked at the former Winfield Hat Company in Holyoke and then at the former Potter Shoes on Memorial Drive in Chicopee. Around 2008, she moved to South Hadley and became a resident of the South Hadley Housing Authority where she made many new friends. She truly enjoyed her new home in South Hadley and became a “master bingo player” at their Tuesday weekly bingo games and was known by all the residents as a “big winner”. Doris also enjoyed bowling and knitting hats for newborns at the area hospitals. She was a former communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church. Doris was a devoted woman who truly loved her family and showered them with her affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her loving children, Francis G. Nadeau and his wife, Margaret, of Summerville, SC, Donna M. Herbert and her husband, Harold, of Palmer, Robert A. Hough and his wife, Sharon, of Easthampton, and Tina M. Courchesne and her fiancé, Glen Hupfer, of Granby; her seven cherished grandchildren, Ian Nadeau, Peter Nadeau, Rebecca Bednaz, Joseph Banning, III, Holly-Jo Renaud and her husband, Ben, Sara Shattuck and her husband, Christopher, and Cale Hough; her four cherished great-grandchildren, Madison Bednaz, Thea and Olivia Banning, and Raylen Shattuck; and her many dear extended family members and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her former husbands, Jacques Nadeau and Clayton H. Hough; and her dear brother, Gerard Wicklman. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, July 16, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 15, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
