Harriett Hornbuckle Edmondson, 82, of Tifton died Friday, July 12, 2013, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. Rev. John Hughes will officiate with a private burial to be held at a later time in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family asks that family and friends drop by for a visit at any time on Saturday, July 13, 2014, at Mrs. Edmondson’s residence at 215 Alabama Drive in Tifton.
Mrs. Edmondson was born on January 15, 1931 in Tift County and was the daughter of Harry A. Hornbuckle and Ernestine Patrick Hornbuckle, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J. E. Edmondson, who died in 1986; one brother; and one sister. She was a homemaker and was a very active member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was also the former Chairman of the Board at Brother Charlie’s Rescue Center.
Mrs. Edmondson is survived by one son, Dr. Steve Edmondson of McLean, Virginia; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lynn and Gene Chestnutt of Columbus and Joy Roberson of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, H. A. Hornbuckle, Jr. and his wife, Myric of Leesburg; one sister, Bettye Custard of Arlington, Virginia; four grandchildren, Joshua Chestnutt and wife, Erica, Carrie Cooper, Brant Cooper and Jacob Roberson; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Chestnutt, Katherine Chestnutt and William Chestnutt.
