Joseph M. Gaides, 82 of Whitman passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday July 11. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Johnson) Gaides.
Born in Quincy he was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah J. (Rantanen) Gaides.
Joe had been president and owner of Colonial Printers of Holbrook, as well as owner of the Braintree Star Newspaper of Braintree. He was also a member of the Braintree Rotary Club.
Joe truly enjoyed the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved playing his guitar and harmonica.
He is survived by his children Roger J. Gaides and his wife Ethel of Thornton, NH, Julie P. Young and her husband David of Whitman, Laurie M. MacAluso and her husband Anthony of Port Orange, FL and Holly S. Antonelli of Whitman, and his brother Charles Gaides and his wife Gloria of Quincy. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kent, Matthew, Karin, Heather, Steven, Janet, Kevin, Michelle, Russell, Kristin and Michael and his 15 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Helen Hite.
His funeral service will be held Monday July 15 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Visiting hours will be held Sunday July 14 from 1-3 PM.
