Obituary

Therese A. (Tormey) Todd, 87 formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2013. She was born in Worcester to the late Dr. Leonard and Anita (Lamarre) Tormey. Known to her family and friends as Terry, she was a 1948 graduate of the College of New Rochelle in New York, and in 1959 received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College. A charter member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for over 50 years, Terry received her LISW in 1955 and was always active in her profession even in her retired years. Terry advocated relentlessly for families and worked as a Social Worker for Catholic Charities, Children’s Friend, Family Services of Central Massachusetts and Mercy Centre of Worcester from 1959 until she retired in 1990.
Terry was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Robert E. Todd in 1999, and her two brothers Paul D. Tormey in 2011, and John C. Tormey in 2012. She leaves behind her four children John J. Todd of Fitchburg, Robert E. Todd, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Franklin, Jennifer D. (Todd) and her husband David Whelan of Auburn and Sarah T. Todd of Westborough as well as a sister Florence (Tormey) Blouin of Montreal, Canada. She will be greatly missed by her four grandchildren Jessica Todd of Worcester, Erin Whitson of Brooklyn, NY, Brendan Whitson of Auburn, and Colby Todd of Franklin.
Terry was a former member of St. John’s Church in Worcester where she actively volunteered, helping with fundraisers and other church functions. Terry also served as secretary for Opera Worcester, Inc. and was a lifelong advocate for the visual and performing arts. She showed a true passion for the theater unconditionally supporting her husband Bob while he headed the Storefront Theatre in Worcester. Entertaining a house full of actors and theater supporters was often a typical Saturday night at their home on Midland Street where she lived for almost 50 years. Terry was a blessing beyond compare, richly endowed with a wonderful sense of humor and a servant’s heart. Everyone who came in contact with her was blessed in some way. She leaves a huge void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
