Geraldine Spivey Norris, 82, of Fernandina Beach, Florida went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. She was born and raised in Douglas, Georgia to the late Lunzy and Rhoda (Lott) Spivey. She spent most of her life in Fernandina Beach teaching and caring for her son, Dean. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Norris and their son, Carl Dean Norris, Jr. Survivors include her family Hazel Spivey of Douglas, brothers John J (Elaine) Spivey of Fernandina, Al (Pam) Spivey of Douglas and sister-in-law Dorcas Cambell of Brunswick. “Granny G” also is survived by Barney (Amy) Spivey of Douglas, Jaye (Chuck) Smith of Peachtree City, John (Mary Ford) Spivey of Douglas, Andy (Kim) Spivey of Blackshear, and Aric Spivey of Douglas. She is survived by her great-nephews and nieces, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Sims Funeral Home Chapel in Douglas at 2 PM. Committal and interment will follow at Rocky Pond Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM prior to the funeral at Sims.
Beloved by her colleagues and students, Geraldine taught at Emma Love Hardee Elementary until her retirement in 1990.
