Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Jeanne M. (Plasse) Trudeau, 89, of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, July 7, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life from her daughter and son-in-law’s, Jacqueline and James’, home in Chicopee surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family who were her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Springfield on January 30, 1924, a beloved daughter of the late Aldei and Aldea (Soulier) Plasse. She was raised in Springfield, attended local schools and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was employed as a Dental Assistant for many years in the Dental Office of Dr. Stewart C. McCracken on Union Street in Springfield. Following her retirement, she was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper at the George St. Pierre & Son Funeral Home in Springfield. During World War II, Jeanne was a volunteer at the Leeds Veterans Administration Hospital in Northampton and also worked making shell casings for the war effort at the former Springfield Armory at the Watershops Pond in Springfield. She was a past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a past president of Le Club Francais and a member of the Semper Fidelis and Holy Name Societies at the former Saint Mary Church in East Springfield. Active in her faith, she was currently a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving son, Roger R. Trudeau who was Called Home on July 4, 2008; and her six dear brothers and sisters, Paul Plasse, Germaine Plasse, Pauline Tourigny, Bertha O’Leary, Gaston Plasse and Melanie Malone. She leaves the love of her life, her beloved husband, Wilfred L. Trudeau. They were married on October 12, 1943 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this coming October. She also leaves her two loving children, Donald E. Trudeau and his wife, Kimberly, of Enfield, CT, and Jacqueline R. Bejune and her husband, James, of Chicopee; her six cherished grandchildren, Shane Trudeau and his wife, Kelly, Eric Trudeau and his wife, Katie, Tara Roberts and her husband, Mike, Sharon Bejune, Christopher Bejune and Ashley Bercume, and Jeffery Bejune; her four cherished great-grandchildren, Justine and Zachary Trudeau and Ava and Noah Roberts; her dear brother, John C. Plasse and his wife, Doris, of Ludlow; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Her funeral will be held on Thursday morning, July 11, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to either the Shriners Hospital for Children, (Springfield), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the Soldiers Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
