John V. "Red" Lyons, 82, of New Bedford died July 5, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Frances C. (Alcarez) Lyons.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late Dennis J. and Theresa M. (Harrington) Lyons, he lived in Hillsboro, NJ and Buffalo, NY before returning to New Bedford in 1968.
Mr. Lyons was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
He was formerly employed as a technological trouble shooter in the textile industry and later was employed as a diesel engineer.
Mr. Lyons served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John F. Lyons and his wife Janet of Texarkana, TX; 3 daughters, Margaret A. Lyons of New Bedford, Catherine M. Lyons and her husband Wallace Greaney of Holyoke and Bridget A. Lyons of Fort Walton Beach, FL; 6 grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Greaney, Jillian F. Greaney, Lindsay V. Brown, Nina M. Brown, Veronica J. Lyons and Adam A. Lyons.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society c/o Holy Name Church 121 Mt.
