Marie A. (O'Brien) Wetmore, 88, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully July 3rd at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lawrence, daughter of the late Frank and Edith (Thompson) O'Brien. Marie was raised in Lawrence and attended the Bruce School, Lawrence High School class of 1942 and continued her education at Lawrence General Nursing School, Class of 1945. While attending nursing school she was a member of the U. S. Cadet Nurse Corps. Marie continued her nursing career at the Lawrence General Hospital for 26 years and then for Dr. Mallen for 18 years prior to retirement. She was also a member of the Lawrence General Nursing School Alumni Association which she served as past president and was a devoted parishioner for 60 years of St. Patrick's Parish in South Lawrence.
Marie is pre deceased by her husband of 55 years, Gordon W. Wetmore, and is survived by 4 children: Richard D. Wetmore and his wife Kathleen of Methuen, Janet L. Nardi and her husband Dominick of West Hartford CT, William Wetmore and his wife Rosemarie of Andover, Mary W. Wetmore of Salem MA; 5 grandchildren; Jennifer, Nathaniel, Kristin, Andrea and Reed; a sister, Helen Kenyon, of Minneapolis MN, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Monday July 8th from 4-8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday July 9th at 11 AM at St Patrick's Church in Lawrence with burial to follow at St Mary Immaculate Cemetery in Lawrence.
