Jean Marie Amato, 82, of Chester, NH died at her home on Friday, July 5, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 20, 1931 in Somerville, MA, a daughter of the late Walter and Helen (McPherson) Wright. Raised and educated in Cambridge, MA, she was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin High School. Jean was employed for over 15 years as a cook with the Cambridge School Lunch program. She resided in Cambridge most of her life prior to retiring to Chester, NH in 1985. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was an accomplished seamstress. Jean also enjoyed gardening and was an excellent cook.
She is survived by seven children, Salvatore Amato and his wife Susan, Jeannette Mills and her husband Gary, Nancy Mahoney, Anthony Amato, Michael Amato and his wife Sheryl, David Amato and his wife Nellie and Virginia Morais and her husband Manuel; twelve grandchildren, John, Michael, Anne Marie, Marylou, Jeannelle, Lindsey, Amanda, Evan, Gabriella, Mellissa, Amelia and Christopher; six great grandchildren, Andre, Olivea, Isabella, Jackson, Nicole and Ashley, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Salvatore Amato in 2002, her daughter, Sue Ellen Amato in 2008 and her brother, Robert Wright in 2013.
Calling hours were held on Monday, July 8, 2013 from 5 to 9pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH. A Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, 567 Manchester Rd., Auburn, NH on Tuesday July 9th at 10:00am. The burial followed in Great Hill Cemetery, Chester.
