Obituary

GLOUCESTER – Alfred D. “Alfie” Ryan, 70, of Lincoln Park, died peacefully, Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Golden Living Center surrounded by his family. He was the longtime companion of Patricia A. Bauman and former spouse of Marie A. Ryan.
Born in Gloucester on September 12, 1942, he was the son of the late Edward and Marjorie (Newhall) Ryan.
Alfie was employed as a fish cutter along the Gloucester waterfront for forty-five years. He was also a foreman at Gorton’s of Gloucester, CC Fisheries and Ocean Crest Seafood. He was also a security guard for Wells-Fargo for fifteen years. During the 1980’s he served as the Conservation and Game Officer for the City of Gloucester.
He enjoyed his many walks in Dog Town Common and as an animal lover, his cat “Holly” and dog “Cesar” brought him much joy.
He is survived by a son, Scott W. Ryan; three daughters, Lisa M. Grossi, Laurie A. Ryan and her companion, Jack LeVie and Amanda M. Ryan; five grandchildren, Felicia M. Grossi, Jessica L. Grossi, Tiffany C. Mitchell, Marissa L. Orlando and Tyler S. Ryan; two great-grandchildren, Anthony D. Mitchell and Erika R. Grossi and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Edward Ryan and four sisters, Marjorie Borge, Doris Ryan, Marcia Skinner and Catherine McKay.
Funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
