Obituary

Rice, David A. unexpectedly on June 15, 2013, of Chestnut Hill, after a protracted but spirited bout with cancer during which he lived fully with grace, style and optimistic determination. He was the loving and beloved husband of Virginia Griffin Rice. He leaves his sisters-in-law Susan Griffin and Kathleen Griffin whom he loved dearly as they did him. He was the brother of the late Maurice A. Rice, and is survived by his loving sister-in-law Mary and two nieces and one nephew and their families. He is also survived my many cousins who were close dear friends well beyond being family.

He was a tenured law professor at Boston, Rutgers, and Roger Williams Universities where he leaves many colleagues, friends and former students. He also held positions at UNC-Chapel Hill, Boston College, Yale University among others. His scholarly prowess was usually muted by his self-effacing style and humor. David was a generous, gentle, faithful man of conviction.
Private family services have been held.

There will be a Memorial Mass at a later date to be announced.

If one wishes memorial gifts in David’s name may be made to MGH. Checks should be made and mailed to: CANCER CENTER RESEARCH IN MEMORY of DAVID A. RICE c/o MGH DEVELOPMENT OFFICE, 165 CAMBRIDGE STREET, SUITE 600, BOSTON, MA 02114
