Obituary

Mr. Jorge Enrique Godoy, a resident of Medford since 1979 and beloved husband of Yvonne Godoy Aguas, died after a courageous battle against cancer at The Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Friday, June 28, 2013. He was 68 years old. Born in Chile on November 7, 1944, Mr. Godoy was the beloved son of Marta Mandiola de Godoy and the late Jorge Godoy. Jorge was a senior research scientist and worked in the pharmaceutical industry for many years.

Jorge, known as “Yoyo” to his dear friends, was raised in Quillota, Chile and graduated from the University of Chile with a degree in Biology. Jorge came to the United States in 1974 and worked at several pharmaceutical companies in Cambridge, the latest being Millennium Pharmaceuticals (a Takeda Oncology Company). Despite living in the United States for many years, Jorge stayed up to date on Chilean news, wine and movies. He was well known for the delicious Pisco Sours that he would make for his close friends, including many “Chilenos” living in the Boston area. He loved the city of Boston and spent a lot of his spare time taking beautiful photographs of the city. He was passionate about classic sports cars and Mini Coopers. Jorge also had an extensive music collection and particularly enjoyed listening to Brazilian Bossa Nova. Above all, Jorge will be remembered for his devotion to his wife of 38 years and for the tremendous amount of love and affection he showered upon his one and only daughter.

Besides his beloved wife, Yvonne, Jorge will be dearly missed by his loving daughter, Brenda Yvonne Godoy, and son-in-law, Samuel Craig Martin, of New York City; sisters Cecilia Godoy Mandiola and Gloria Godoy Mandiola, both of Chile, nephews Raul, Gonzalo, Javier, and Jose Luis, and niece Nazareth.

Visiting hours were held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 4 to 8 PM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Funeral service and interment were privately held. Donations in Jorge’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. For additional information, please visit, www.magliozzifuneralhome.com
