Obituary

Mary L. (Derfler) O'Neil RN, a resident of Berlin, New Hampshire for over 25 years and a former longtime resident of Wakefield and 10 year resident of of Tuscon, Arizona, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin, New Hampshire following an extended illness. She was 69 years old.

Mary was born in Winchester on November 21, 1943, a daughter of the late Fred O. Derfler and Helen (Blodgett) Derfler. She grew up in Wakefield where she was educated in the Wakefield Public School system and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1962. Mary furthered her education at North Shore Community College and graduated Magna Cum Laude and recieved her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1972. Mary's nursing career began at several Boston hospitals including Carney Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital where she was involved in dialysis. Mary worked as a Registered Nurse for over 25 years in the dialysis field where she enjoyed training co-workers and she retired as a Supervisor in the dialysis department at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton in 1997. Mary is a member of the Massachusetts Nurses Association and the Saugus Elks. Mary was an avid seamstress and quilter.

Mary is the beloved wife of the late Eugene Fallstich and Robert F. O'Neil. She is the devoted sister of Ruth E. Derfler and her spouse Christine Canavan of Wakefield. She is the loving aunt of Louise and Hannah Canavan of Wakefield. She is the beloved step-mother of William Fallstich and his wife Renee of Saugus and Kelly Lalumiere and her husband Lance of Berlin, New Hampshire. She is the beloved grandmother of Corie, Carie, Torie and Andy Willand. She is the dear cousin of Ann Blodgett Murphy and her husband Kevin of Barrington, Rhode Island. She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary's Funeral Mass on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 11 A.M. in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield. There are no funeral home visiting hours.

Memorial donations in Mary's name maybe made to Most Blessed Sacrament Church Women's Guild Scholarship Fund, 11 Grove St. Wakefield, Mass. 01880.
