John William Heintz, age 90, longtime Grandview resident, entered into rest on June 24, 2013 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.
He was born on April 14, 1923 in Bowdle, South Dakota to Anselm and Christina (Gese) Heintz. He was raised and educated in Bowdle and Prosser. John served in the U.S. Army after receiving a medical discharge, lived in California and Prosser until settling in Grandview where he lived for most of his life. He married Theda McCall on September 11, 1944 in Pasco.
On February 14, 1997 John and Mary Louise Kellen eloped and were married in Las Vegas.
John was self-employed as a carpenter and electrician, having trained at Davis Electric in Grandview. He built many homes in Prosser and Grandview until retiring in 1985. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, DAV and the American Legion. He loved bowling, wood working and dancing and playing cards at the Grandview Senior Center.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Louise (Kellen) Sage Heintz of Prosser; his daughter, Joyce Mill-Graham and husband, Tim of Selah; his son, Jim Michael Heintz and wife, Jeri, all of Selah;
his step-daughter, Mary Sage Rusk of Prosser; his brothers, Tony Heintz & wife, Joyce of Prosser and Ray Heintz and wife, Kathy of Everett; 16 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Aldeana Heintz of Richland and Penny Heintz of Grandview. He was preceded I death by his first wife, Theda (McCall) Heintz in 1996; his sons, John Heintz Jr. in 2001 and Jerald Heintz in 2007; and his grandson, Stephen Tompkins in 1988.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 27 at Prosser Funeral Home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 28 at Blessed Heart Sacrament Church in Grandview.
