New Bedford – Amelida Quinones, aged 80, died Saturday June 22, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of Emrito R. Quinones with whom she shared 19 years of marriage. Amelida was born in Aquadilla, Puerto Rico, a daughter of Rufina (Ruiz) and Clemente Torres. She moved to this country in 1952 and worked as a Seamtress for several factories. She was a devoted member of the Church of God where her and her husband, Emrito, donated their time and worked very hard at the upkeep of the church. Mrs. Quinones loved decorating her home with plants, flowers and colorful stickers.
Her survivors include her husband, Emrito; 4 children: Carmen Perry and her husband Arthur, Hector Hernandez and his wife Mabel Cruz, Norma Hernandez and Gloria Hernandez, all of New Bedford; her brother, Antonio Ruiz of Connecticut; as well as 16 grandchildren 42 great-grandchildren, with 2 on the way, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Amelida is predeceased by her daughter Grace Collazo and her brother Mercedes Ruiz
A Religious Service will be held on Tuesday, June 25 beginning at 11:30 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford. Visiting hours will be the morning of the service from 9:30 A.M. – 11:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
