Jules J. Robitaille, 93, of Manchester, died June 18, 2013 at St. Teresa Manor after a period of failing health.
He was born in Manchester December 23, 1919 the son of the late Adolphe and Mary (Forest) Robitaille. He grew up in Manchester and attended St. Anselm College. He served in the US Army as a paratrooper during World War II in the European Theatre.
He lived in Lothian, MD for many years before returning to Manchester two years ago.
Jules was married to Yvette (Camire) Robitaille who died April 24, 2011.
He spent the majority of his career in the newspaper industry in Washington, DC, first at the Evening Star, the Washington Star, finally retiring from the Washington Post."
A deep love of God, country, and family are the qualities that come to mind about Uncle Jules. He will also be remembered, by his many nieces and nephews, for his quick sense of humor and passionate and astute appreciation of history, politics, and sports. Any family gathering was livelier and more fun when he was there.
Uncle Jules served in the Army during World War II as a paratrooper, telling us that he made fifteen jumps in all, though on eight he was pushed. After the war, he proposed to his future wife on a Manchester city bus, and he and Aunt Yvette spent part of their honeymoon in Boston at a Boston Braves game. Uncle Jules and Aunt Yvette shared much in their 62 years together and it was clear to all they were best friends as well as husband and wife.
Uncle Jules worked on the production side of the newspaper industry in the Washington, DC, area at several newspapers. Once he retired, he took up gardening and also authored a play, "The Proof Room," that was based on his experiences working for a major metropolitan newspaper. Though Uncle Jules did not have children of his own, he will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Bonne nuit, m'oncle Jules.
He leaves many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at St. Anne-St. Augustin Church, 383 Beech St., Manchester, NH.
Burial was in St. Augustin Cemetery, Manchester.
