Mrs. Mary L. O'Connor, age 96, of Waltham formerly of Washington, NH and Woburn, MA passed away peacefully on June 18th, at the Pine Knoll Nursing Center in Lexington following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. O'Connor. Born in Arlington, she was one of eight children of the late Margaret (Gillis) Brine and Charles L. Brine.
Mary was raised in Woburn where she attended school and was a graduate of Woburn High School's class of 1934. As a young lady Mary worked for her uncle, Clarence Brine, at the Fellsway Laundry Service in Somerville and in the 1940's when the men were away at war, Mary hopped behind the wheel of truck to help with making deliveries and pick-ups for her uncle's business. She later worked for the Pepsi Cola Corporation and retired as the Payroll Master of the North East Division after many years of employment. Following her retirement and her husband's retirement together they moved to the Lake Ashuelot Estates in Washington, NH. Mary remained very active in her retirement and served as a Treasurer of the Lake Ashuelot Estates Association. She was a member of the Hillsboro Garden Club and a member of the Angus Lea Golf Club of Hillsboro, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hillsboro American Legion and also served as Treasurer of the Shedd Library in Washington, NH. In years past Mary and her husband enjoyed bowling together at the Towanda Club in Woburn and were both involved in organizing the league and serving as treasurer for several years. Mary was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed music and sharing her talent.
Mary is survived by her devoted daughter, Clare L. Hurley and her husband Christopher of Woburn. She is also survived by one brother, Joseph G. Brine of Woburn and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her late husband and parents, Mary is predeceased by her sisters, the late Ruth Coleman, Margaret H. Power, Clare Ross, Alice Hannus, brothers, Charles L. Brine and Donald R. Brine.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Friday, June 21st, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family prior to the mass at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary's memory to the Salvation Army, 147 Berkley St., Boston, MA 02118 or to the Woburn V.F.W.
