Obituary

Lillian Evelyn Wood, born March 7, 1928 was the daughter of Harriette and James Starkweather and raised in Duxbury with her sister Marilyn and surviving brother Walter (Englewood, FL). On June 17, 2013 at 85, she passed with family gathered by her side in her Plymouth home where she resided for the last sixty years. By age 12, she saved a young girl from drowning at sea in Winthrop, Ma giving her mouth to mouth resuscitation. This would be typical later of how Evie could always be counted upon when those she loved needed her the most. To her many nephews and nieces, family and close friends she was a lifeline. Ev was an extraordinary woman with many talents including her beautiful artwork and love of music. Most indelible in our memories will always be her legacy of a lifelong love story with her husband Loring Wood who died in 1999. Lo was shot two days before the end of World War II leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Ev, dating him after the war ended, married the man of her dreams making her a member of the Gold Star Wives of America. Though she became his devoted caretaker, he also was a fierce caretaker of her heart and together they were an unforgettable duo. Their joy, spontaneity, laughter, love of family, generosity, inspiration would fill this home leaving us all the better for how they lifted us despite of their own challenges. After his death, she continued their time-honored tradition of sharing their homestead with the dogs they cherished and all the family who would come to their door. We want to honor her life in celebration inviting those who attend the service to dress brightly because this is how she lived. Service will take place Friday, June 21st at 1pm at the Davis Funeral Home on Court St followed by the burial at Vine Hill Cemetary on Samoset Street in Plymouth where she will be buried next to the resting place of her beloved husband.
