Marie Elizabeth (DeSmet) Richardson, age 94, of Winchester, passed away peacefully in her home on June 16, 2013. Born in Medford, MA, she was the daughter of the late Clementine (Van De Pontseele) and Polidor DeSmet of Geraardsbergen and Overboelare, Belgium respectively.
She was a graduate of Medford High School and was the wife of the late Dr. Edward C. Richardson, Jr. to whom she was married for 69 years. Throughout her life, Marie enjoyed homemaking and being with her husband and family. She and Edward enjoyed dancing together, as well as skiing and vacationing in Bridgton, Maine.
She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Marie was sister to the late Rene DeSmet and Angele Christina, sister-in-law to the late James Christina, Frances and William Clarke, Cora and Charles Cutter, Ruth and Stephen Cashman, Dr. Philip E. Richardson, and aunt to the late Kevin Cashman and David Clark.
She is survived by her four loving daughters and sons-in-law: Ellen M. and Peter E. O’Neill of Lexington, MA, Christine and Raymond I. Rigney, Jr. of Chelmsford, MA Marilyn DuPont of Hollis, NH, and Lisa A. and George Elwell, III of Winchester, MA; her sister-in-law, Joan Richardson, of Yarmouthport, MA;
her ten grandchildren: Matthew Rigney and his wife Jennifer of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Jennifer Rigney-Carroll and her husband Dennis of Upper Arlington, OH, Jesse (Stabile) Morrell and her husband John of Lee, NH, Stacey (Stabile) Keith and her husband Sean of Apex, NC, Kristen DuPont of Hollis, NH, Christopher R. O’Neill of Lexington, MA, Megan (Harrington) Edward and her husband Larry of Andover, MA and Jacqueline, Olivia, and George Elwell, IV of Winchester, MA;
her eleven great grandchildren: Alexandra and Joseph Morrell, Benjamin and William Rigney-Carroll, Lauren and Ryan Rigney, Maggie and Molly Keith, Cole Harrington, Sage and Scarlett Edward and
her fourteen nieces and nephews: James and Philip Clark, Elizabeth (Clark) White, Elaine (Cutter) Emery, Susan (Cutter) Morin, Jeanne (Cutter) Clermont, Janice (Cutter) Roy, Nancy (Cutter) Gordon, Judy (Cutter) Silva, Edward Cashman, Donna Cashman, Cheryl (Richardson) Wagner, Kathleen (Richardson) Winkler, and Dr. Sarah E. Richardson.
