Irene (Belanger) Golden, 86, of Groveland, formally of Lawrence and North Andover, passed away peacefully Saturday June 15th at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. Born in Lawrence daughter of the late Emile and Leda (Matton) Belanger, she was one of nine children. Irene was a graduate of the former McIntosh Business School in Lawrence and later was employed by the Textile Workers Union CIO for ten years prior to staying home to raise her family. Upon returning to the business world she was employed as the Administrative Assistant to the President of the former Arlington Trust Company in Lawrence. She retired in 1987 after twenty six years of service and then spent her later years making quilts for her family, friends, and homeless shelters.
Irene is survived by her husband of 61 years Joseph Golden, three children Michael Golden and his wife Bonnie, Karen M. Golden-Smith and her husband Lloyd of Middleton, Joseph A. Golden and his wife Claire of Haverhill, three siblings Raymond Belanger and his wife Cecile of Methuen, Rita Cote and her husband Ovila of Bradford, Ernest Belanger and his wife Alicia of Madrid, Spain, brother in-law Lauren Smart, three sisters in-law Charlotte Belanger, Ethel (Golden) Belanger, Catherine (Golden) Winn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday June 19th from 4-8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence Street Methuen MA. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday June 20th at 9 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel/St Theresa’s Church with burial to follow at St Mary Immaculate Cemetery in Lawrence.
