Obituary

Halifax – William L. “Bill” Hurst – 92 died Sunday June 16 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 25 years to Eleanor “Ellie” (Hull) Hurst, and 40 years to the late Helen V. (Gillcrist) Hurst.

Born in Boston he was the son of the late William I. and Eva (Cournyn) Hurst.

He was a proud veteran of the World War II having served in the US Coast Guard from 1942-1945 and a member of the American Legion Post #226 of Hanson.

Before his retirement Bill had worked for over 34 years as an electrician for MIT in Cambridge.

He had been a long time resident of Dorchester before his move to Halifax 37 years ago where he was an active member of the Halifax Mobile Home Association.

For over 59 years Bill had been member of the St. Paul’s - Algonquin Masonic Lodge where he had served twice as a Master Mason.

He enjoyed boating, bowling, dancing and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and the Patriots. He truly loved camping and for several years was a member of the camping groups “Silver City Coachmen” and the “Big Blue Chapter of Good Sam” where he traveled around the country.

In addition to his wife Ellie he is survived by his daughter Janice Cunio and her husband Ronald of Rockland, his daughters-in-law Carol Hurst of Marshfield and Nancy Hurst of Abington. He is also survived by 3 step-children Jim Buccella of Hawaii, Donald Buccella and his wife Tammy of Pembroke and Barbara Weatherbee of Middleboro as well as 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 nieces. He was the father of the late Kenneth and William Hurst and brother of the late Dorothy F. Wright.

His funeral service will be held Thursday June 20 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow at 12:45 PM in the MA National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday June 19 from 4-8 PM with a Masonic Service at 7 PM.
