Alice D. L’heureux, 88 of Salem, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 At the Hunt Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Danvers, following a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Raoul I. and Yvonne (Bouchard) L’heureux.
Born and raised in Salem, she was a graduate of the former L’Ecole and L’Academie St. Joseph of Salem. In her earlier years, she was co-owner, with her sister Pat, of Ida’s Beauty of Salon of Salem. Alice retired after a career at General Electric Riverworks in Lynn, with the apprenticeship training division.
Alice was active in many of the organizations of the former St. Joseph Parish and was a former president of the St. Joseph School Alumni Association. She and her sister Pat operated the St. Therese Thrift Shop then located at St. Joseph Church. She enjoyed traveling through the United States, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean Islands and she was especially fond of her trips to Alaska.
She is survived by her two brothers, Philip L. L’heureux of Bretton Woods, NH, Robert A. L’heureux and his wife Gloria of Salem, three sisters, Emma Wright of San Antonio, TX, R. Patricia L’heureux of Salem, Marguerite A. Desjardins and her husband Conrad of N. Woodstock, NH, her sister-in-law, Claudette L’heureux of Laconia, NH as well as 19 nieces & nephews and 31 grandnieces and grandnephews. Alice was predeceased by her brothers, Raoul, Gerard & Jean L’heureux and her beloved sister Jeannette L’heureux. Alice will be missed by her family and by those who loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral mass on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Parish, 161 Federal St., Salem, MA 01970, or the charity of your choice.
