Richard A. Langis, 75, of New Bedford died Monday June 10, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Patricia (McHale) Langis.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Armand and Alexina (DaRosa) Langis, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Mr. Langis was formerly employed by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 35 years. He later worked as a security guard at the Aerovox Corporation and Reliable Security.
He served in Battery "C" 1st How Bn 211th Arty of the Massachusetts National Guard and was called to active duty in 1961 through 1962. He was a member of the American Legion Post One and the Catholic Association of Foresters.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed cutting coupons, guns, playing cards with friends, Bingo, and traveling to Foxwoods, Newport, and especially Las Vegas.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Donna Marie Michaud and her husband Ronald of New Bedford, Lisa Jane Langis of Attleboro, and Michael Thomas Langis and his wife Linda of New Bedford; a sister, Jane Marie Livsey of New Bedford; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Marie Fiano, Melanie Anne Michaud, Nicole Patricia Michaud, James J. DeSimas, Tiffany L. Botelho and her husband Joseph, Tracy DeMello and her husband Jamie, and Timothy Langis and his wife Tia; and four great-grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth Fiano, Nicholas, Michael, and Benjamin Botelho.
He was the father of the late James Richard Langis and brother of the late Jerrod Langis and Janet Avila.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
