Jules P. Laferriere, 97, formerly of Grove St., Woonsocket, died Tuesday in Candia, New Hampshire. He was the husband of the late Marguerite (Ethier) Laferriere.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Oscar and Roseanna (Paquin) Laferriere. He was lifelong resident of the city and had resided with his daughter in New Hampshire for the past several years.
Mr. Laferriere attended Mt. St. Charles Academy.
He was employed in the local textile industry at several area mills and later worked in the maintenance dept. for the Woonsocket School Department for over 25 years before retiring in 1981.
Mr. Laferriere was a longtime communicant of Precious Blood Parish and a member of the L’Union de Priere. He was a member of the Rhode Island State and Municipal Employees Union.
Jules was supporter of all New England Sports teams and liked to meet and chat with friends at local coffee shops. He was also a staunch supporter of the Mt. St. Charles hockey team and faithfully attended most all home games.
Jules will be remembered as a devoted husband and father and loving grandfather and great-grandfather and for his notable sense of humor.
He is survived by two daughters Denise Monaghan of Candia, NH and Monique Laferriere of Greenville. Two grandsons Ross Monaghan, and his wife Katelyn, and Matthew Monaghan, and a great-grandson Sullivan Monaghan all of NH. He was the brother of the late Henry and Normand Laferriere, Yvette, Vivian, Constance and Pauline Laferriere.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket. Visiting hours are Friday morning from 8:30-9:30 am, prior to Mass, in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket.
