Obituary

WORCESTER: Stephen F. Rice, 75, formerly of Windsor St., died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at UMass Memorial Medical Center- University Campus, after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of almost 51 years, Dolores A. (Burke) Rice; three sons, Robert S. Rice and his wife Jennifer of Hampden, ME, Joseph D. Rice of Worcester, Sean M. Rice and his wife Mary Beth of Clarksville, TN; a brother, Walter J. Rice of Oxford; two grandchildren, Matthew R. and Morgan A. Rice; a great granddaughter, Lilianne E. Rice; several nieces and nephews. A son, David J. Rice; a brother, Emmett Rice; and two sisters, Rose Rice and Patricia Rice, all predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Morgan J. and Mary E. (Daviau) Rice and was a 1955 graduate of South High School.
Steve was a market analyst at Gulf Oil Company for several years until he retired in 1999. He previously worked at several other companies including many years with General Electric in Pittsfield. After his retirement he worked at Worcester Art Museum for several years. He was a long time member of St. Bernard’s Parish, now known as Our Lady of Providence Parish, where he served as a Lector and member of the choir. He was also a former long time Leader of Boy Scouts Troop No. 2, a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 13455 and the Britain Square Neighborhood Association. He enjoyed studying the Irish Language and was an active member of ADTF.
CALLING HOURS are 6 to 8 p.m. THURSDAY, JUNE 13 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 A.M. FRIDAY, JUNE 14, at OUR LADY OF PROVIDENCE PARISH, 228 Lincoln St. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
