Obituary

Richard J. Pfaff, 82, of Kingston, NH, passed away suddenly on Monday June 3, 2013

Richard was born in Westfield, NJ on January 28, 1931 to Willard and Cecilia Pfaff and lived there for 27 years. He was a pitcher for a semi-pro baseball league, served in United States Air Force and worked for ATT and Bell Laboratories of North Andover, MA for 36 years as a senior technical associate.

Richard was a devoted husband and father. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth N. (Devine) Pfaff on June 21, 1958. They raised two children, William and Judith.

He was a longtime resident of Hampstead, NH. He coached the Hampstead girl’s softball team and was a former member of the Hampstead Civic Club and served as club secretary

He was a third degree Knight in Knights of Columbus, Peterson Council 4442.

Richard was a Communicate of St. Joseph Church in Salem, NH where he served as a member of the Consolers ministry and as a Eucharistic minister. He was previously a Communicate and Eucharistic minister at St. Anne Church, Hampstead, NH.

Richard was an avid fisherman. His passion was surf casting for striped bass, particularly on Martha’s Vineyard. In 1957, he caught a record-setting 55 pound striped bass on Cape Cod. He also enjoyed ice fishing, charters, a fast running river, deep lake or still pond.

Richard was an inventor, enjoyed gardening, and attending music concerts. In addition, he was a meticulous electrician and eager to help others with home projects.

Richard was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth N. Pfaff of Hampstead, NH. Survivors include son Dr. William P. Pfaff (Stephanie) of Plattsburgh, NY, daughter Judith A. Pfaff, RN, of Epsom NH, sister Clare Darden of Studio City, CA and Richard’s special friend and companion, Linda Pavlini, of Hampstead, NH, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 7th at 10 AM at St. Joseph Church, Salem, NH. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Hampstead, NH. Calling hours will be Thursday, June 6th from 5-8 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation, 7151 N. Main St. Suite 2, Clarkston, MI 48346 or to the St. Joseph Food Pantry, 33 Main St, Salem, NH 03079.
