William H. Youngblood, III, 97, of New Bedford died June 1, 2013 at Alden Court.
He was the husband of Ann (DaLuz) Youngblood.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Julian B. and Bertha M. (Jackson) Youngblood, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Youngblood served on active duty in the U.S. Army for 20 years, and later served for 13 years in the Army Reserves, retiring as Captain. During World War II, he participated in the battles of the Southern Philippines, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands and was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon, Philippine Liberation Medal and the World War II Victory medal. After retirement, he worked as a chef at Sullivan's Steakhouse in Rhode Island and at Cathay Temple.
He was a Life Member of the Military Officers Association of America, a volunteer for the Whaling City Festival, and was vice-president of the Cape Verdean Ultramarine Band Club.
His enjoyed constructing country furniture.
Survivors include his wife; 3 daughters, Gwendolyn A. Amado of Hayward, CA, and Jocelyn L. Youngblood Andrade and Kimberly Youngblood, both of New Bedford; a brother, Quentin W. Youngblood of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Mary B. Youngblood, Yvonne L. Craigwell, Tracy F. Youngblood, Hamer F. Youngblood and Julian E.T. Youngblood.
His Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, June 6th at 12:45 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday, June 5th from 5-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
