George Basil Franks, 82, of Quitman, formerly of Tifton, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Presbyterian Home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013, at Lawrence Cemetery. Rev. Henry Cannington will officiate with burial to follow. Tony Verzi, Michael Franks, Talon Franks, David Franks, Sean McGinty and Rhett Walker will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 3, 2013, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Franks was born on May 5, 1931 in Guin, Alabama and was the son of Velmon Randolph Franks and Martha Foard Franks Wood, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. He was a retired pawn shop owner and spent the last 40 years of his life in the Valdosta area.
Mr. Franks is survived by his children, Karen Franks Dart of Valdosta and her children, Rhett Walker and Whitney Bass; George Michael Franks of Hahira and his children, Michael Franks, David Franks and Emily Slaughter; Anthony Glynn Franks of Valdosta and his children, Talon Franks and Tori Pittman; and Debra Franks Verzi of Melbourne, Florida and her children, William McGinty and Sean McGinty. Mr. Franks is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.
