Obituary

Peter E. Jay
Weare– Peter E. Jay, 70, died May 31, 2013, at the Concord Hospice following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada on November 29, 1942, the son of George E. and Mary E. (Power) Jay and has been a resident of the Manchester area since 1966.
In 1956, his family moved to Boston where Peter got his first job teaching youngsters how to sail at Community Boating. He graduated from Boston English High School where he played hockey. He would go on to be the captain of the freshman hockey team at Boston University. Peter’s love of the game lead him to become a hockey referee for many years at the high school, college, and minor league level. In 1971 he coached the club hockey team at Trinity High School, and one year later started the first varsity hockey program the school had ever seen. Following his high school coaching career, he was recruited to coach at NH College from 1976-79.
Peter owned and operated Northland Stamps, which evolved into Northland Sports, selling all types of sports cards and memorabilia. He was always involved in sports, whether coaching, volunteering, or donating memorabilia for tournaments, raffles, and numerous charities. Soccer was his second love.
He was a 47 year member of the Raphael Social Club where he would donate raffle prizes and trivia night items, deliver food baskets, and cook for the golf tournament and the Super Bowl Party.
Members of his family include his wife of 34 years Deloris (Isabelle) Jay of Weare, one daughter Susan Tyler and her husband Paul of Manchester, one son David Jay and his wife Nicole of Dunbarton, three grandchildren Ryan Bresnahan, Elena Jay, and Magdalen Jay.
A memorial reception will take place Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St., Manchester. A service of remembrance will be held at 7:30 pm in the funeral home during the reception.
The family wishes to thank the CRVNA Hospice House for the care and compassion they showed Peter during his short time there.
